Ruth Smith Wood's Obituary
Ruth Smith Wood died peacefully on September 21, 2016. Nellora Ruth Smith was born on March 10, 1933, to Herman and Agnes Smith in Childress, Texas. Her grandparents, T.A. and Pearl Ross, settled in Childress County in 1898. She graduated from Childress High School in the Class of 1951. She was an honor graduate of The University of Texas in 1955 and was a member of several honorary organizations, including Orange Jackets, Mortar Board, and Phi Beta Kappa. She worked for the Statler Hilton and Channel 8 in Dallas and later for Lennox International, lnc., retiring in 1995. Ruth married Bobby Dean Wood in 1959 and was blessed by three daughters, Kathy, Kerry, and Kay. Divorced in 1994 from Bob Wood, they remained friends. Ruth was an active member of Bentwood Trail Presbyterian Church and served as an elder, deacon, and trustee. Her church and her friends were very important to her. Preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ross Smith. Ruth is survived by her three daughters, Kathy Barnett and husband Bob, Kerry Hoffmans and husband Jim, Kay Dowell and husband Greg, five grandchildren, Mark Barnett, Krista and Erika Hoffmans, Ashley and Jeremy Dowell. She was also survived by her sister-in-law, Janet Smith, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Following a private burial at Restland, a memorial service will be held at 3PM on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Bentwood Trail Presbyterian Church, 6000 Bentwood Trail, Dallas, TX 75252. ln lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church or to a charity of your choice.
