Sallie Ward Bailey's Obituary
Sallie Ward Bailey was born on January 1, 1924 in Weatherford, Texas and passed away on September 6, 2016 in Dallas, Texas. Sallie was born in Weatherford, Texas, to John Franklin Ward and Emmalene Gertrude Patterson. Her brother, Joe Bailey Ward, sister, Pansy Lee Ward Everett Morgason, and husband, John B. Bailey, preceded her in death. She grew up in Weatherford and moved to Dallas in 1942 with her parents so that she could work and help provide financial support for them. Her first jobs were at W.A. Greens and Skillerns Drug Store, where she worked at the soda fountain. She started working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company on January 18, 1943, serving as Operator, Trainer and Service Assistant before retiring on December 31, 1983. Sallie married her husband, John B. Bailey, on May 27, 1951, while he was home on leave during the Korean Conflict. They remained loving partners for 63 years, sharing a rich life of service as long-time, active members of First Community Church of Dallas, as well as numerous community groups, local Democratic organizations and campaigns. Sallie was a fantastic cook, and her cakes were usually claimed before any bake sale had even begun. She loved walking on the beach and gathering seashells at her beloved South Padre Island, and used her love of scrapbooking and photo albums to maintain exhaustive histories of her family and her church. She was a remarkably sweet, kind and loving woman, devoted to family and friends, always dependable and honorable. Sallie is survived by daughter, Karen Logan and spouse, Paul; daughter, Gilda Bailey; son, Shannon and spouse, Marlon Cortez-Bailey; grandchildren, Noah Bailey and spouse, Lindsey, and Siobhan Grantham and spouse, Sam; great-grandchildren, Sean and Malcolm Grantham and Juniper Bailey: great-nieces, Teresa Beasley and Sarah Brazzel, and great-great-niece, Andrea Beasley. She is also survived by multiple generations of close friends that she always considered family. The family would like to thank all of the caregivers and medical staff who cared for our mother with skill and compassion over the past several years. We would especially like to thank the staff at Loyd’s of Dallas II, Encompass Home Health and Hospice, and Baylor Elder HouseCalls. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Life is eternal and Love is immortal, and death is only a horizon, and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight. — Rossiter Worthington Raymond Family will receive friends on Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 6:00–8:00PM at Restland Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 3:00PM at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
