Sally Ann Ardis' Obituary
Sally Ann (Webster) Ardis, 96, of Plano, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 8 after a long illness.
She was born on Aug. 9, 1926 in Friendship, New York, to Dr. Elmer Stanley Webster and Helon (Pitts) Webster. She graduated high school in Friendship, where her father was president of the school board. From 1944 to 1946 she was a student at Arcadia University (then known as Beaver College) in Glenside, Pennsylvania.
In 1946, Sally married Beverly Donn ("Joe") Ardis, a World War II veteran who served in Europe with the Royal Canadian Air Force's 428 Bomber Squadron. Following their wedding they moved to Long Beach, California and while there they had two children, Bruce Duncan Ardis and Gary Douglas Ardis. In the mid-1950s his work at the Colgate-Palmolive Company brought them to the Dallas area where they had two more children, William Donn Ardis and Michael Dean Ardis. All four sons graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas.
In the early 1970s Sally began a 25-year career in retail working for the Sanger-Harris department store (later known as Foley's, and eventually purchased by Macy's) in Preston Center in Dallas.
She was joined in Dallas by her mother, who moved to the area following the death of Dr. Webster in the mid-1960s, and by her brother John, whose work with the Boy Scouts of America brought him to the Dallas area in the 1970s.
Sally's husband passed away in 1997 and after retiring she spent her approximately 20 years serving as a volunteer with the Methodist Richardson Medical Center, near where she lived in Richardson. She also spent time with her family, walking her dogs, and traveling, taking several cruises to Alaska, the Panama Canal, and the St. Lawrence Seaway. She spent her last few years at the Prestonwood Court assisted living facility. She was known for her love of the Peanuts comic strip (Snoopy in particular), her father's practical jokes, guacamole and margaritas.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and his wife Carol. She is survived by her four sons and their spouses (Bruce and Valerie of Longmont, Colorado; Gary and Mary of Oak Point, Texas; William and Ladan of Frisco, Texas; and Michael and Patricia of Kansas City, Missouri), grandchildren Kristopher (and spouse Alexandra) of Southlake, Texas and Catherine (and spouse Alex Trouteaud) of Barnesville, Maryland, five great-grandchildren, and her cousin Karen Harrell of Falmouth, Maine.
Sally's final resting place will be next to her husband at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. She will be sincerely missed by her loving family, devoted friends and everyone who knew and loved her.
