Sally Anne Tanner's Obituary
Sally “Anne” Tanner, age 91, passed away December 20, 2023, following a brief illness.
Anne was born March 11, 1932, in Lakeland, Florida, to Kate and Vance Booker. In Florida she attended grade school and spent the war years waiting for news of her father’s return from serving in the Pacific Theater. Following the war, the family moved to Dallas, Texas, where she graduated from North Dallas High School and attended North Texas University.
While attending college, Anne met the love of her life, Max Tanner, on a blind date. They married Christmas Eve, 1951. She was a dedicated wife and mother and raised two sons, Mark and Matthew.
Anne was a talented artist, gardener, decorator, and collector of antiques, keeping her home looking like something out of a magazine every day of the year. She loved holidays and decorated her home for every season.
Her many friends and family remember her as talented, creative, strong-willed, and energetic; sometimes “bossy” but always on the go. Her most common phrase was, “Don’t need any help, I can do it myself.”
Anne was dedicated to the Lord and was always working on something at her church home, John Calvin Presbyterian. If she wasn’t painting, she was cleaning, organizing, decorating, or cooking for a church event.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Max H. Tanner, Jr. She is survived by her brother Vance Booker, Jr. and his wife Cindy, son Mark and wife Janet, son Matthew and wife Linda, two granddaughters Alison Gillies and Leanna Godwin, and two great granddaughters, Reagan Godwin and Isla Gillies. The family appreciates the caring support of her dedicated caregivers of the past several years, Tonya Ross and Susan Chapman.
