Sammie Louise Baker's Obituary
Sammie Baker passed away peacefully in Richland Hills, Texas on March 4, 2019, with her daughter by her side. Her passing was the result of complications from Dementia. Sammie was born Sammie Louise Reed on April 26, 1934, in San Antonio, Texas, the only child of Feldon and Clara Maye Reed. Originally from Charlotte, TX, she was a 1951 graduate of Charlotte High School where she was the band’s drum major and a 1955 graduate of Hardin-Simmons University where she earned a Bachelor in Business Administration and was a proud member of the Six White Horse Riders.After graduation she moved to her parent’s home in Dallas and started her profession as a secretary at Blue Cross Blue Shield. She married in 1957 and had three children, Glenn Edwin, Jr, Andrew Frederick, and Kathryn Louise, were born at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. Sammie had four grandchildren, Michael, Alyssa, Benjamin and Jonathan Nobles.Sammie was a homemaker and stay-at-home mother while her children were in school. As a lifelong Baptist, she was an active member of Wellspring Church for many years, teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible school as well as singing in the choir.In 1991, Sammie started working at Life Outreach International as an Administrative Assistant. She retired from LOI in 2008. Sammie took on many different roles in her local chapter of Aglow International, an organization she truly loved being a member of and made several close friends from this group. Sammie loved traveling and felt fortunate to have visited 49 of the 50 states as well as several foreign countries. Sammie had a joy and passion for the Lord, and boundless love for all of her children and grandchildren.Sammie is survived by her children, Eddie of Keller, Andy and his husband Fred Portegies of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and Kathy Baker of Irving, as well as her four grandchildren, Michael, Alyssa, Benjamin and Jonathan Nobles.Sammie’s life will be celebrated at a funeral service on March 14, 2019, 3:00 pm. Visitation will be at 2:00 pm in the Wildwood Chapel. There will be a private graveside service at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, TX.In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you make a donation in Sammie’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or Freedom Hospice who helped in the last days..Visitation for Ms. Sammie Louise Baker will be held Thursday, March14, 2019 at 2:00PM at Restland Funeral Home.
