Sammy Kimani Kariamburi's Obituary
The late Sammy Kimani Kariamburi was born on January 1st, 1949, in Kagongo village (Loc. 19), Mathioya Constituency in Murang'a County to the late John Kariamburi Mwangi and the late Serah Muthoni Kariamburi. He was the 5th of 7 siblings.
Sammy was husband to the late Zipporah Njoki Njuguna and Rachel Wanjiru Muturi. Father to Sarah Muthoni Kimani, John Kariamburi Kimani and Antony Njuguna Kimani. Bonus father to Mary Wanja, John Kinuthia, Peninah Waringwa and Evelyn Wambui. Father-in-law to Johnnie McGee and Irene Mumbi Ngatia. Brother to the late Loise Wanjiku Kamau, Rhoda Mboo Gikonyo, Benjamin Mwangi, Esther Wanjiru, Wilson Gacheru & the late Daniel Muteru. Brother-in-law to the late Hezron Kamau, the late Gikonyo Waititu, the late Margaret Mwangi, Mary Gacheru, Rebecca Muteru, Rachel Wairimu, the late Dorcas Kamau, George Muchai, Charity Muchai, the late Isaac Muchai, Henry, Elizabeth, Minneh, the late Catherine, Gerald, Charles, Paul, James, Lucy, Sarah, Margaret and Arthur. Uncle to Serah Muthoni, John Kariamburi, John Mwangi, Charles Mwangi, Sammy Mwangi, Joe Mwangi, Serah Wambugu, Serah Muteru, John Muteru, Elizabeth Muteru, Loise Muteru, Isaac Muteru, John Gacheru, Serah Gacheru, Peris Gacheru, Solomon Gacheru. Grandfather to Sasha, Lex, Kai-Sam, Kayla, Sam and Zaynah.
As a young boy, Sammy Kariamburi began his primary education at Lake Nakuru Primary School and Kagongo Primary School then Gacharageini Intermediate School. He attended Nyandarua High School then St. Xavier's High School where he completed his O Level in 1968. He began working at Howse & McGeorge in Phamarceutical Sales and Marketing. He had a successful sales career there beginning as a Sales Representative from 1969 – 1994, until he began his own phamarceutical distribution agency. He moved to Dallas, Texas in March 2001 and worked in various companies, establishing himself in Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) in the manufacturing department before finally retiring in 2015. He was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church and an active member of the Kenyan community.
The late Sammy Kariamburi had a health scare in 2011. Through rehabilitation, strong will and support from family and friends, he sprang back and went on to enjoy life by God's grace. Since then, among other things he managed to see his daughter’s Sarah’s arrival to the USA, who later wed her husband Johnnie McGee in 2023. He also witnessed his son, Antony marry Irene in 2019 and start a family, bearing 2 children. His love of family never waivered, as he visited Kenya mulltiple times, maintaining old relationships and creating new ones – memories that will be cherished forever. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends with his wife, and made every effort to parcipate in community events.
On the morning of September 2, 2024, Sammy had a medical emergency that was later diagnosed as a massive brain bleed, once at the ICU at the Medical City of Dallas hospital. The wonderful medical staff did all they could. He passed away on September 5, 2024, at the age of 75. The late Sammy Kariamburi was a man that deeply loved his family and who enjoyed spending time with them. He was a loving, calm, kindhearted, wise and generous man with an easy-going demeanor. He was friendly and warm to all that had a chance to interact with him. He will be greatly missed and cherished by family and friends alike. The Lord giveth and the Lord hath taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.
