Samuel Joseph Giannoble's Obituary
Samuel Joseph Giannoble, born May 23, 1916 in Des Moines, Iowa, died in Austin, Texas, on October 20, 2008, at the age of 92, with son Rick and daughter in law Suzy at his side. Sam was married 64 years to wife Mildred, who preceded him in death on November 14, 2001. Sam was the oldest son of Paul and Mary Giannobule. He had three sisters and two brothers. Predeceasing him were sister Mary Bryan and brothers Frank Giannobule and Vincent Giannoble. Surviving Sam are his sisters Pauline Hurley and Rose Benavente of California. Sam worked in the family fruit and vegetable business while growing up in Des Moines and was a recognized athlete at Lincoln High School in Des Moines, lettering in both football and basketball. After high school graduation in 1934, he worked for Foreman Clark selling business suits and married Mildred L. Sowash May 22, 1937. Sam was a born salesman and was very successful. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and was a Pharmacists Mate, stationed on an LST in the Pacific during WWII. After WWII, Sam returned to Foreman Clark in Des Moines. Their only child, Richard Paul was born in Des Moines in 1947. From 1951 to 1978, Sam worked for H.J. Heinz Company in numerous sales management capacities in Iowa, Colorado and Texas. He received highest awards for top salesmanship and management. In 1978, Sam retired with Mildred in Dallas, Texas, to pursue his favorite hobby, golf. He loved playing with many of his “golfing buddies” and continued to play until his eye sight prevented him from continuing in 2007. Sam enjoyed many, many friends and will be missed by each and every one of them, including those who shared his life at Whiterock Court in Dallas from 2001 to 2008. He could remember and tell the best jokes. He loved to follow sports on TV, play golf, and spend time with family. Sam will be sorely missed by his loving son Richard and wife Suzy of Austin, grandson Todd and his wife Jill of Southlake, Texas. Claudia Anne, his great granddaughter will remember her “GG” Sam with a bright smile, too. The great family memories of Sam with his family and friends will be held close in our hearts forever.
