Samuel Ralph Porter's Obituary
Samuel (Sam) Ralph Porter was born on April 9, 1946 in Cherokee, Iowa and passed away November 14,2014 in Dallas, Texas after fighting a brave battle with cancer. Sam enjoyed a successful and varied career in the automotive industry in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Texas. Later in life, he worked as an Independent System Operator for Encore Payment Systems. Sam was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia; his father, Ralph; his daughter, Buffy Simmons, and his sister, Karolyn Taylor. Sam is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his son, Sam Porter and wife, DeDe; his daughter, Meisha Shofner and husband, Vance; his daughter, Kortney Nelson and husband, James; his seven grandchildren, Shelby, Rylie, Sam, Leigh, Franklin, Lucille and Ren, and his brother, David Porter and wife, Veronica. A visitation for Sam Porter will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Friends and family are welcome to stop by and do what Sam always liked best-talk, tell stories, and share memories. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75238. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
