Sandra Kay Barr's Obituary
Sandra Kay Barr, 74, of Dallas, passed away on March 9, 2023, following a stroke. Sandra was born on October 16, 1948, to Alan and Clara Strege in St. Paul, Minnesota.
She received her PhD from UT Southwestern Medical Center in Clinical Psychology in 1978 and subsequently enjoyed careers in investigations and negotiations with the U.S. Department of Defense and in clinical psychology in private practice. Her hobbies included gardening, crafting, spending time with her family, and futilely arguing with a variety of technological devices. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader and a Texas Master Gardener and ran the gardening program at Meadowstone, where she resided.
Sandra embodied tenacity and didn’t let physical limitations become obstacles. She once won a round-robin arm wrestling tournament against other Scout leaders (never mind the ruptured elbow tendons), and her children once exhorted her to “stop painting your ceiling and get back in your wheelchair.” She was indefatigable until the end.
Sandra was predeceased by parents Alan and Clara Strege. She is survived by her daughter Amy Patrick (husband Joe) and her son Thomas Barr (wife Lynn), grandchildren Cecilia and Lillian Patrick, sisters Cheryl Simkins (husband Jon), Susan Morgan (husband Bill), and Cindy Green (husband Randy), nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas.
