Sandra Brown Compton's Obituary
Sandra Brown Compton was a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, caring daughter, protective sister, hardworking woman, but most of all, a Woman of God that carried high morals and values from a young age until her passing on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. Sandra was born on January 6, 1958, to Imogene and Lenzo Hill in San Antonio, Texas. She grew up with one younger sister, Patty Jean Lucas. Her family settled in South Dallas, where Sandra spent most of her formative years. She is best known for her outgoing personality, giving spirit and ability to connect with people and make them feel like family.
In 1975, Sandra received a scholarship to the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. Sandra was the first in her family to go to college. While in college, Sandra became a member of the beloved Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and met the love of her life, James Sidney Compton, who would become her husband. Sandra graduated in 1979 with a bachelors in Accounting.
Sandra started her career in the accounting department for Neiman Marcus in Downtown, Dallas. Sandra went on to work in accounting for various nonprofits in Dallas. Sandra then began working for Hilton Hotels in Grapevine, Texas, until her early retirement.
Sandra was an active member of Greenville Avenue Church of Christ where she served in various ministries and loved hearing and sharing the Gospel.
Sandra and James married on September 29, 1982 and were married for 39 years until James was called home on April 27, 2021. The two shared phenomenal times together including welcoming two beautiful children into their union, Clifton Alexander Compton and Laurin Sidney Compton. Their son, Clifton Alexander Compton, gifted them with more people to love, including a daughter-in-love, Samantha and three grandchildren, Neriah, Braelynn and Maya. Sandra's family meant everything to her. She enjoyed watching her children grow up and become hard working professionals and she also enjoyed being "GiGi" to her three adorable grandchildren.
Sandra was known for her elaborate family holiday parties. Sandra used any excuse to cook, decorate and open her home for any celebration. Sandra enjoyed living life and managed her home with passion and love. When Sandra and James became empty nesters, she enjoyed taking road trips with her husband, going to concerts and being the best GiGi she could be.
Sandra was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2020. She fought a long fight and stayed strong throughout her diagnosis and treatments. Sandra left behind a life full of legacy and memories to a host of relatives, friends, church family, work members and sorority sisters whom she loved very dearly.
