Sandra Lee Davis' Obituary
Davis, Sandra Lee was born Feb. 8, 1939 in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania to Nellie Dailey Burt and Clifford Burt, and died on May 15, 2013 in Dallas, TX. She attended Hillcrest High School and Southern Methodist University, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She married N.R. “Dick” Davis on May 22, 1965. Sandra was passionate about her family, her friends, books and reading, and animals, especially horses and dogs. She loved visiting the many horse farms in Kentucky. For many years she volunteered over twenty hours a week at the University Park Public Library, using her in-depth knowledge of literature and current best-sellers to sort through book donations. Sandra enjoyed discussing books with everyone, especially her book club friends, and she loved being with her knitting group friends. Most of her needlepoint and knitting projects were gifted to friends and family. Her sharp wit, twinkling smile, and clever sense of humor brought much laughter. Wherever she went, Sandra dressed stylishly and with , great care. She was an avid antique collector who was considered one of the world’s greatest shoppers. It is difficult to capture the essence of someone as unique as Sandra. Her beliefs were strong, with an unwavering devotion to those she loved. She was a loyal wife, loving mother, and devoted friend. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Peggy Burt Peabody. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Burt Hatcher and husband Glenn; husband, N.R. “Dick” Davis; children, Scott Clifford Davis and wife Carol, Leslie Brook Davis Singleton, Richard W. Davis and wife Lynn, Susan Davis Plauche’ and husband Jeff, and Linda Jo Davis Evans; grandchildren, Grace and Peter Davis, Richard and Hardy Davis, Julianne Plauche’ Folk and husband Nick, Caroline and Reid Plauche’, and Robert, Cole and Clay Evans. The family feels fortunate to have had RN Christine Reeves and the other caregivers from Faith Presbyterian Hospice. Memorials may be sent to SPCA of Texas, 2400 Lone Star Drive Dallas, TX 75212. A memorial service and celebration of Sandra’s life will be held at Restland Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, May 21 at 2:30 PM.
