Sandra Margo Dowd Borjes' Obituary
Sandra Margo Dowd Borjes died peacefully in the early hours of 2018 after a year-long battle with cancer. Anyone who knew Sandy would agree that she was, more than anything, the sweetest person you could ever hope to meet. What some may not know is that her gentle disposition hid a fierce, sometimes silent strength. Sandy was an incredibly resilient woman.Sandy was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at a young age, and though her husband had his own physical disabilities, her unshakable faith, love for her family, courage, and determination to defy odds kept her going. There was no problem she couldn’t overcome, no hill she wasn’t willing to climb to live life to its fullest. Even in her final days, she insisted that the doctors didn’t know everything, and she proved them wrong on multiple occasions.Though Sandy was physically limited, she took great joy in life. She loved arts, crafts, music, and games. And she could outpace anyone when it came to chocolate and coffee. Out of everything life had to offer though, Sandy’s greatest treasure was her family. Toward the end of her life, she enjoyed spending the afternoons reading and playing cards with her mother and Aunt Marion. (Rummy 500 was her favorite, and we’re proud to report she won her very last hand.) But it was her grandchildren she cherished most of all. She became a hip grandma, keeping up with the latest technology just to keep up with her grandkids. Her commitment to her family will be just one of her legacies she passed onto her family. Her boisterous laughter echoes through our memories and all of the hugs she insisted on giving will help warm hearts in the years to come.Sandy was preceded in death by her husband David Borjes, father Glenn Dowd, and sister Karen Loving. She is survived by her daughters and their families: Joy Borjes & Jeremy Callison and their son Jonah Borjes-Callison; Noel & Bill Molnar and their children Matthew and Charlotte; her mother and step-father Patsy and Bob Stewart; sisters Tracy Hall & husband Ron, Vicki Marrie & husband Mark; brothers Miles Dowd & wife Malinda; Lynn Dowd & wife Tracy, and Rick Dowd & wife Martha; countless nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; and her many friends in Dallas and across the globe.Grandma, Mom, Sweetie, Princess, Fred, Sandy-poo, you are loved and missed dearly. We hope you’re having fun singing Patsy Cline into your hairbrush, dancing like nobody’s watching.Family visitation at Restland Funeral Home on January 3, 2018, from 6:00-8:00 pm. Memorial services on January 4, 2018, at 2:00 pm at Highlands Christian Church (9949 McCree Road, Dallas). Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Sandy’s honor to the MS Society or American Cancer Society.
