Sandra Ann Purdom's Obituary
Sandra Ann Crouch Purdom was born March 21, 1937 in Cooper, Texas. For many years she battled Alzheimer’s and passed away peacefully on February 3, 2023 at the age of 85. She had many passions in her life and faithfully believed in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. As a Sunday school teacher for many years, she received great joy in teaching children and as a result began an after school Kids Can program at Saturn Road Church of Christ in Garland, Texas.
In her professional life she had two careers that she took great pride in her accomplishments. Being selected as only the 2nd female produce buyer, she enjoyed her travels in Mexico and the U.S. selecting fields of produce to be sold in Safeway Stores. Later her joy of writing enabled her to work for a local newspaper with many articles to her credit.
On her birthday in 1981, she married her soulmate, Jim Purdom and lived together in Garland for more than 40 years. As lovers of nature, their gardens were full of lush green plants and gorgeous blooming flowers. Animals of all sorts found their way to their oasis, of which many made it their home. The doors to their home were always open to many gatherings of family and friends. Their travel adventures allowed them to see the U.S and abroad and brought them great joy.
Sandra was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years James W. Purdom Sr., and her first husband, Marion D. Biggerstaff, the father of her two children. Also preceding her in death are her mother and father, Esther and Raymond Crouch and her sister and brother Joy Womack and Jerry Crouch, whom she loved very much.
She is survived by her daughter and son, Camille Ussery and Doug Biggerstaff, step children Vikki Milam and James Purdom Jr., brother Pete Crouch and many other loving family members.
Her daughter would like to share her heartfelt gratitude to Kelly Purdom who lovingly provided much care for Sandra and Jim. In addition, significant gratitude to the staff at Cambridge Court Senior Living in Mesquite for their love, kindness and compassion.
