Sandra Sue Potts Redick passed away peacefully in her apartment at Cedar Hill Senior Living on the morning of Tuesday, October 24th, 2023. She had turned 83 earlier in the month. Funeral services will be held at the Restland Funeral Home Wildwood Chapel in Dallas, on Friday, November 3, 2023. Viewing begins at 1 pm. The funeral begins at 2 pm, and the graveside service begins approximately 3:15 pm.
Sandra Sue Potts was born to Robert Eugene and Charlotte Marian Lewis Potts on October 6, 1940, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She attended public schools in Indianapolis, and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School. She dated her future husband, Thomas Eugene Redick, at Purdue University at West Lafayette, IN. Tom Redick made his living as an engineer, and the 1960’s were filled with job/employer changes and moves. The couple moved every couple of years it seemed, as their growing family continued to expand. They moved to Virginia, New Jersey, Indianapolis, Indiana, and on to Webster, NY. where Tom began working for Xerox Corporation. Tom and Sandy (and their family of 5 children) even spent a couple of years overseas in England in the early 1970’s. In August of 1974, the family moved to Dallas, TX, where Sandy and Tom would spend the next several decades in a neighborhood near Tom C. Gooch Elementary School. Tom continued working for Xerox, and it was here that they finished raising their three oldest children, and primarily raised their two youngest children.
Sandy was an involved mother and community member. Whether it was cheering on her children in sports, or drill team, or serving as the den mother of her sons cub scout pack, she was in the thick of things. In her church, Sandy sang in the choir, and helped with the coordination of senior activities. She served as a board member and/or officer of Glen Meadow Neighborhood Association for many years, and served as editor of the newsletter (The Voice) as well. Sandy and Tom were actively involved in the Neighborhood Watch program. Sandy enjoyed the challenges of her involvement; it seemed to give her a natural high. She loved the good feeling that accomplishing things together provided to her. After her children were grown, Sandy completed an Associates Degree in Fashion and Retail Merchandising from Brookhaven College in 1996.
Tom passed away in their home in November of 2020, after being in their Dallas home for 46 years. The two of them had very different perspectives on life, religion, and on social policy. Family dinners over the years have included lively, colorful conversations. As children and grandchildren have gathered around their supper table, they have been exposed to two valid, divergent views, and that has served as a blessing to their posterity. They will both be remembered fondly, and may they rest in peace.
About a year after Tom’s passing, Sandy moved into Cedar Hill Senior Living. At the time of the move, Sandy had recently undergone surgery, and the anesthesia affected her memory remarkably. Additionally, there were mobility issues/fall risks that were factored into this lifestyle change/decision. This senior living center was located near grandson Justin Paul Schaefer, who has been such a blessing in caring for his grandmother and her affairs. Sandy adapted in this change as best she could, and she enjoyed visits from family members - near and far – as well as from her Pastor. Sandy Redick is survived by daughters: Teresa Lynn Goode (Kenny), and Debra Sue Young (Chuck); as well as sons: Michael Eugene Redick (Nena); Richard Alan Redick (Carolyn, deceased); and James William Redick. She is survived, as well, by 18 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Sandra Redick will be Friday, November 3, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. A Service will be Friday, November 3, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.
