Sandra ( Sandy ) Chitty McCravy's Obituary
A Life Well Lived
Sandra (Sandy) Chitty McCravy passed away on December 30, 2025, at the age of 86, in Dallas, Texas. She was born in Monroe, Louisiana on November 18, 1939. Sandy lived an active life filled with service to her church and community, and her days were marked by love and joy.
Early Life and Education
After graduating high school in Gonzales, Louisiana at the young age of 17, Sandy attended Northwestern State College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1961. During her time at Northwestern, she met Dewey McCravy, who became the love of her life. They were married on June 3, 1961, and shared 64 wonderful years together. Their union was blessed with two children, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Dedication to Health and Service
Sandy’s lifelong commitment to health and service was evident both in her personal pursuits and her professional career. She spent her entire nursing career working in surgery and retired from Children’s Medical Center Dallas in 1986. Following her retirement from nursing, Sandy attended massage therapy school and became a registered massage therapist, working out of a chiropractor’s office for several years.
Passion for Sports and Performing Arts
An avid tennis player for many years, Sandy played competitively with Brookhaven teams in Texas. As her tennis career was winding down, she joined the Dallas Tap Dazzlers, a senior tap dance group. For over two decades, Sandy enjoyed dancing with the Dazzlers, performing at nursing and retirement homes, in parades — including a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade — and at the Spectacular Senior Follies in Richardson, Texas. In 2016, at the age of 76, Sandy participated in the Ms. Texas Senior America Pageant, where her dedication, talent, and grace led her to win the esteemed title. Through her involvement in pageants, Sandy found new opportunities to serve and inspire seniors throughout her community, extending her lifelong commitment to uplifting others.
Faith and Community Involvement
Sandy's faith played a central role in her life, guiding her actions and bringing fulfillment to her journey. In whichever church God placed her, she was a devoted member and took on leadership roles in Sunday School classes, Bible study groups, and a Christ Care group. Additionally, Sandy shared her love of music by singing in church choirs for many years. Her unwavering faith in God was evident in her dedication to her church family and the broader community.
