I'm so sorry I wasn't paying more attention to old friends, but I'm profoundly sorry for your loss. Dr Spencer was so influential in my life - not only did she believe in me enough join her Master's Women's studies program, she ignited and encouraged and celebrated my activism and motivated me to soar with no limits. All of us in her MA WS cohort 2013 just adored her, and I'm so privileged that I got to spend so much time with her. May she rest in power
Dr. Spencer was my academic advisor and professor at UNT. She made such a lasting impression on me. Her kindness and support was amazing. When the history advisor told me I shouldn't double major in English and history, because I wasn't going to be a coach, I went to ask her thoughts. She looked at me for a few seconds and then started tapping things into the computer. She then liked at me again and said "your now a double major in English and history". My only regret was that I didn't go on the trip to England with her. She tries so hard to convince me to go. It was between going on the trip or graduating at the end of the summer. She underway me choice, but still wish I had gone. I know it would have been amazing. She was an amazing educator and mentor.

I was an orphan and low income student, who first rode an airplane on a study abroad trip to Scotland with Dr. Spencer in 2001 or so. I was terrified and clueless. She walked me through how to apply for a passport and was so kind and patient with me when I was scared and had jet lag! I fell in love with travel because of her, and went on to live in Paris, France after graduation. She wrote letters of recommendation to help me get into law school at the University of Maryland, and I now live in Seattle, WA with a wonderful career. I took all of her classes from 2000-2002. I loved her smile and her leadership. Peace to her family- may her memory be a blessing. Claudette Rushing
