Sandra Wimberly's Obituary
Sandra Allen Wimberly, 79, of Dallas, TX, passed away, March 10, 2015, with her children at her side. Sandy was born to the late Oscar and Frances Allen, May 24, 1935, in El Paso. Sandy received a B.A. in Education from University of Texas at El Paso in 1973 and received a M.Ed. in Student Personnel Services with a minor in Psychology from North Texas State University in 1975. The Texas Certification Board officially certified Sandy as an Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselor in September 1982. In March 1988, Sandy was awarded a certificate of appreciation by the Texas Rehabilitation Commission for devoting over 10 years of faithful professional services to the state of Texas. In addition, Sandy also learned sign language and was an avid counselor for the deaf community. Sandy, known as Mom to her children and Nannie to her grandchildren, had an ability to light up a room and fill it with joy and laughter. She could always bring a smile to your face. Family and friends would agree that Sandy’s ability to bring joy to those around her with laughter is one of her greatest legacies. Anyone who spent any amount of time with her knew of the strong sense of pride she carried in regards to her children and grandchildren in seeing the amazing young men and women they have grown to be. Even in her battle against dementia, her children were never far from her thoughts. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Carol Allen. Sandy is survived by her beloved friend, Julia Katherine Kirk, and former husband and father of her children, Herbert Wimberly. Sandy is survived by four children and one nephew: Vicky (Mike) Johnson, Bert (Becky) Wimberly, Deborah Medearis, Tim (Dhana) Wimberly, and Ken (Wendy) Pratt. She is survived by thirteen grandchildren: Kirby Johnson, Kara (Brant) Bradley, Katie Johnson, Amanda, Laura, Rebecca & Olivia Wimberly, Cade Medearis, Justin (Kelsey) Wimberly, Noah (Aftynn) Wimberly, Matthew (Sarah) Wimberly, Zachary & Wesley Wimberly. She is also survived by two great grandchildren: Paytonjoy & Haven Wimberly, as well as three great nieces and one great nephew: Anna, Meghan, Katie & Nathan Pratt. Celebration of the life of Sandra Allen Wimberly will be held at 12:30pm on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Restland Funeral Home in the Wildwood Chapel, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX.
