Sandy Y. Dabney's Obituary
Mrs. William Dabney, known to her many friends as Sandy, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away at home on January 22, 2008, on the day of her loving husbands birthday. What a gift for him to be joined by such a dedicated and loving wife. Bill Dabney had passed away only six months ago. What a wonderful example of dedication to each other and marriage they set for their friends and family with their almost 60 year marriage. Even while ill, she continued to have a positive attitude around her children and grandchildren and was such a joy to be around. Sandy was born September 3, 1926 and was raised by her parents, Hattie B. and Powell Tyson in Rosebud, Texas. She graduated from Rosebud High School. She received her Bachelor of Science from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. She was also voted Miss Bluebonnet of Texas. After graduating, she moved to Dallas to work for Lone Star Gas Co. She met Bill Dabney on a blind date and they were married in 1948. Sandy was active in politics and various volunteer organizations and clubs. In 1960, she was the Dallas County Campaign Chairperson for Senator John Tower, the first elected Republican Senator from the state of Texas since Reconstruction. She was named one of the Top Ten Republican Women in Texas. While raising a family, Sandy was also active serving as Board Member of the Town North YMCA, member of The Dallas Womens Club, Northwood Club and the Northwood Ladies Golf and Tennis Association, Hidden Hill, The Suburban Book Club, Garden Club, and various Parent Teacher organizations among others. She was an enthusiastic member of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church and a generous supporter of the Dallas Area Parkinsons Society (DAPS), where she also was asked to serve on a local chapter board. Sandy and Bill enjoyed traveling extensively with friends and family as well as with the People to People International Programs. They also loved spending time with family and friends. She often came out on top in their many games of cards and dominos. Sandys outgoing personality, including telling you what she really thought, and her friendly and loving spirit will be missed by all. Sandy is survived by her sons, William Ty Dabney, Michael Scott Dabney, and daughter Dru Dabney Wilson. She was also preceded in death by her son, Dan Yarbrough Dabney and her grandson, Clayton Scott Dabney. Also, she is survived by grandchildren, Krista Dabney, Adrienne Dabney, Andrew Dabney, Michael Dabney, Christina Dabney, Kate Dabney, Dabney Wilson, James Wilson and Matthew Wilson. She is also survived by her loving sister, Lou Bray and her husband, Thomas.
