Sandy Freeman's Obituary
Sandra Jo Freeman, 80, of Wylie, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026 surrounded by her family. She was born October 15, 1945 in Myrtle Springs, Texas, to John Edward and Nellie Mae Simmons. Sandra grew up in Myrtle Springs before later establishing her career as a logistics coordinator in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. However, it was her love for family, travel, and making lasting memories that truly defined her life.
One evening, Sandy crossed paths with David Freeman, and the two were married on August 1, 2000, in Aransas Pass, Texas. Together, they traveled wherever their RV could take them, often joined by friends who shared in their adventures. Fun-loving, feisty, and full of personality, she was always smiling and ready for a good time.
Sandy was a devoted mother and a constant presence in her daughter Shannon’s life, a true example of steady guidance, encouragement, and care. Whether out on shopping trips with her granddaughters—making sure to capture a few selfies along the way—or enjoying a happy hour with friends, Sandy embraced everyday with joy and laughter. Above all, her family was the light of her life, bringing her boundless joy and purpose daily.
Sandy is preceded in death by her parents John and Nellie Simmons; stepdaughter, Melanie Perez; brothers: Devon, Harry, Geraldine, Bill, Jack, and Ronnie Simmons; and sisters: Johnie Phillips, Patsy Smith, Jewel Gee, Temple Foster, Shirley Orsborn Kendrick, and Linda Johnson.
Those here to cherish the memories Sandy created are her husband, David Freeman; daughter, Shannon Chapman and her husband Ben; sisters, Jean Rabe and her husband James and Helen Bennett; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Chaney and her husband Steve, and Linda Perrin and her husband Ed; stepchildren, Marisa Olivarez and her husband Mark, and Bret Freeman and his girlfriend Angela; grandchildren: Lance Russell, Kaylin Chapman, Blake, Josh, Jacob, and Luke Freeman, Ashlee and Alexis Perez, Nathan and Namon Olivarez, and Natalee Altom; great-grandchildren: Olivia, River, Russell, Bennett, Norah, Emma and Sydney. As well as a several nieces, nephews and extended family members and many friends who she loved deeply.
A Celebration of Sandy's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2026, at Restland Funeral Home, located at 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Sandy’s name to the Firefighters Relief Fund:
