Sarah Louise Attaway's Obituary
Sarah Louise Singleton Attaway of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully at 3:45 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2019 at Pekin Manor in Pekin, Illinois.She was born August 12, 1930 in Texarkana, Texas to Margaret Isabel Shilling and Elmon Ned Singleton and married Albert Norcutt Attaway on September 22, 1951. He preceded her in death August 31, 1991 at 63 years of age. She lost her son, Jeffrey Stuart Attaway on October 16, 1987 at 28 years of age, and her brother, Colonel William C. Singleton and sister, Helen Rodgers.Sarah, known to friends and family as Sally, is survived by her daughter Jill Attaway (Mitch Griffin) and grandson Parker Griffin of Delavan, Illinois; granddaughter Ashley Thompson and great-granddaughter Bailey Thompson of Whitewright, Texas; sister-in-law Jane Ann Singleton of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.She graduated from Texas High School in Texarkana, Texas and studied at Texarkana College prior to attending The University of Texas at Austin where she received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1951 completing her college degree in three years. She was a trail blazer to study business and worked in accounting at Dillard’s Department Store in Texarkana, Texas and Sid W. Richardson, Inc. in Fort Worth, Texas following graduation, marriage and relocation to Arlington, Texas. She left the work force to raise her children but obtained her real estate broker’s license in 1970 and worked in residential and commercial real estate in Dallas, Texas. She maintained her own real estate corporation until 1988 when she retired. She loved connecting with her customers and locating property to meet their needs. She also owned and maintained several rental properties and real estate holdings in Texas, Arkansas, and Montana. In Dallas, Sally was a member of Central Christian Church.Sally was fiercely independent, opinionated, extroverted, and talkative. She enjoyed lively discussions and sharing her views on issues of the day. She resumed golf in retirement and relocated to Bella Vista, Arkansas in 1997 where she was a member of Highland Christian Church. Sally was active in the Hill and Dale Hiking Club, Sophisticated Ladies dance group, ladies bridge, golf, and the Texas Club at Bella Vista Properties. She also enjoyed traveling and visited over 60 countries and all continents with various tour companies. Sally was a talented seamstress and made clothing, draperies, home furnishings, and upholstered furniture. She also enjoyed music and playing violin. She relocated to Central Illinois in 2013 to be near her daughter and family.A burial service will be held in Dallas, Texas at Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery on Monday, July 22, 2019 at 4:00 PM. Arrangements are also being handled through Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan.Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association, or organization of choice.
