Sarah Catherine Fincher's Obituary
Sarah Catherine (Haley) Fincher passed away from us to be with her Lord on February 21, 2009. Funeral service to be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, February 25, 2009 in Restland’s Abbey Chapel, with visitation one hour prior and interment following at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas. Catherine was born in Dallas, TX on September 24, 1924 to Rutter Bryant and Ellen Wynona (Drury) Haley. She grew up and attended school in Dallas. She married her first sweetheart, Edward (Sunny) Fincher on December 7, 1943. He volunteered for the service in WWII. After his return, they had three children; Nona Diane Mathis of Denton, TX, Donna Kay Stephens of Garland, TX and Stephen Louis Fincher of Montgomery, TX. She worked for Ennis Business Forms in Ennis until the family moved to Dallas, TX. She then worked as a bookkeeper for Crown Zellerbach, Gaylord Container Division for many years and retired. Wanting to stay active, she went back to work at Bowling and Billiards for a period of time. She eventually moved to Denton, TX to be closer to family. She lived at Fairhaven Retirement Home and then at Cottonwood Manor. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and, in 2008, by her husband. She is survived by her brother George Haley of Seguin, WA; her three children, Nona and husband Stephen Mathis, Donna Kay and her husband Curry, Stephen and his wife Tami; two grandchildren, Kimberly Kay Mathis of Denton, TX, Michael Mathis of Krum, TX; and two great-grandchildren, Joel and Jordyn. Her smile and energy, her passion for garage sale activities, buying and selling, and her love of all kinds of games is legendary, and those memories will stay with us. Her friends and her family will truly miss her physical presence, but will always feel her spiritual presence. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Fairhaven, 2400 North Bell Avenue, Denton, TX 76209, (940) 387-4381.
