Eapen, Sarmamma's Obituary
Saramma Eapen of Mattathu House, Kumbanad, India, peacefully entered into the presence of her Lord on July 2, 2026, at the age of 96.
She was born on March 31, 1930, in Omalloor, Kerala, India, to the late Sosamma and C. M. Mathai of the Chakalayil family. On April 13, 1950, she married M. E. Eapen of the Mattathu family, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service.
Saramma lived in India and Bahrain alongside her husband before later moving permanently to the United States, where she spent her remaining years with her children, most recently residing with her daughter, Daisy Thomas.
A woman of unwavering faith, Saramma was known for her deep love for God and His Word. She read the Bible more than thirty times throughout her lifetime and memorized numerous passages of Scripture, including entire epistles and many Psalms. Her knowledge of Scripture and steadfast Christian witness were a source of encouragement and inspiration to all who knew her.
Saramma faithfully served the church in many capacities. She was the Vice President of the Sodhari Samajam of IPC Kumbanad. Her commitment to serving God and others was evident throughout her life.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Stephenson Mattathu (Mary Stephenson), Daisy Thomas (the late V.T. Thomas), Belsy Koruthu (Jose Koruthu), and Jessy Kuriakose (Abraham Kuriakose); eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and many extended family members, friends, and all whose lives were touched by her faith, wisdom, and love.
Though deeply missed, her family rejoices in the assurance that she is now in the presence of her Savior, whom she faithfully loved and served throughout her life. Her legacy of faith, compassion, and devotion will continue to inspire generations to come.
