Satya Josephine Dyes' Obituary
DYES, SATYA JOSEPHINE – 78, met her Lord and was reunited with her husband on April 5, 2012. She passed peacefully in her sleep and with the loving hand of her beloved, Ernest, guiding her to Heaven. She fought a courageous battle and ended her time here on Earth with dignity, love and respect. She had charm that could bring a smile to any face, beauty that would stop people in their tracks and compassion that influenced the lives of so many. She was born in New Delhi, India on May 16, 1933 to Rev. Thomas Phillips and Shanti Phillips. She had two sisters, Shiela Newton and Shobha Singh and a brother, Emmanuel Phillips. She was the first Indian woman to graduate from Southern Methodist University witha double Master’s degree in Education and Theology. She married her one true love, Ernest Michael Dyes in India in 1962. They were soul mates and had a romance that movies are made of. She and Ernest traveled the world together. They went to the Far East, Europe, Africa, tropical islands and Alaskan cruises. However, their biggest adventure of their life was moving to the United States. This began a legacy for many family members to follow and settle here in their adopted homeland. She spent 35 years influencing the lives of young people as a Dallas school teacher. She loved to play rummy, drink an occasional beer, get manicures from her granddaughters, wear silly hats and have just the right shade of red lipstick. She told stories of sun-filled, happy days in India when she and Ernest would ride on his motorcyle through the hill stations and have pricnics in the countryside. Her life was filled with laughter, wonderful moments and amazing people who truly loved her. Satya, “Nani”, is survived by her two daughters, Sabina Dyes Killion, wife of Lt. Col Andrew Kilion, USMC and Sajina Cooper, wife of Steve Cooper. She and Ernest were blessed with four beautiful grandchildren, Sarah, Rachel, Jacob and Emma. It is those that are left behind that weep. We miss the spirit that is now soaring and the soul that now rejoices in Heaven. Service will be held at 3:30PM, Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Restland Memorial Chapel with interment following in Whispering Waters III at Restland Memorial Park.
