Shari Sanders Schwarz's Obituary
Helen Shari Sanders Schwarz
Shari Sanders was born on June 25, 1946 in Dallas, Texas. She was the daughter of Elwood Davis Sanders and Helen Ethel Kindblade Sanders. She passed away on August 7, 2021 in Dallas. She was preceded in death by her older sister, Susan Gayle Dishman, and by her parents and by her former husband, Kenneth Schwarz. She is survived by her son Daniel Sanders Schwarz, her daughter Megan Sanders Schwarz and her daughter Jamison Sanders Kindblade, and also by grandchildren Victoria Schwarz Graham, Nathaniel Schwarz, Isaac Brunone, Judah Brunone and Elisha Brunone, and by great grandson Theodore Graham. Other survivors include her nephews John David Dishman, Mark Stephen Dishman and Peter William Dishman, sons of her sister Susan and husband John.
Shari received her BA in Spanish Literature from Westhampton College at Richmond University, and her MA in Spanish Literature from Purdue University. She also had credits toward a PhD in Spanish Literature from Purdue.
Shari had a lifelong career as a Spanish teacher at both the college and high school levels. She taught in public schools in New York, Arkansas, North Carolina and Texas. In 2006 she joined Theo Homeschool Christian Solution at its founding. There she taught Spanish to homeschool students until her retirement in 2021. Teaching at Theo allowed her to implement her own unique approach to the teaching of Spanish that utilized the Bible as the primary reference to be translated. In that way she not only taught students to write and speak Spanish, but also shared the Gospel with them as they learned. She wrote her own textbook that implemented her unique approach, and several of her classes gave the students dual credit at both the high school and college level.
Shari was an avid water skier and could do tricks that the men of the family could not match. She enjoyed hiking the woods of North Carolina and Arkansas. Even in her seventies her yoga training allowed her to do splits and other acrobatic exercises.
Shari gave her life to Jesus Christ as her Savior as a teenager living in New Jersey. She took a detour from her faith for a time during and after college, but returned as dedicated Presbyterian the remainder of her life. She loved the great classics of the Reformed Faith including the Puritan authors, but especially the Westminster Larger and Shorter Catechisms. Her life can be summarized, especially near the end, by a verse from the 8th chapter of the Book of Romans: “For I consider the sufferings of this present time not worth comparing to the glory that will be revealed to us”. She is now at home with the Lord experiencing that glory she longed for.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, August 14 at Town North Presbyterian Church, 1776 North Plano Road in Richardson.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Town North Presbyterian Church Deacons Fund, to Theo Christian Solution, or the PLAN of North Texas.
