Sharlene Jo Meeks' Obituary
Sharlene Jo Meeks was born on June 1st, 1927 in Gorman, Tx, to Jessie Leyon Lantron and Lillie Belle Conner. She grew up in Gorman, Tx, where her and her brothers were raised by her Grandmother. After she graduated from Gorman High School, she later met her first husband, Lester Mack Curry, when he was home on leave from the Air Force. They fell in love and later married on February 24th, 1947 in Brownwood, Tx. Together while living in Brownwood, Tx they raised three wonderful children: Jimmy Lester Curry, Dona Sharlene Curry, and Danny Wilson Curry. From when her children were young, up until she was no longer able to be, she was very involved in their lives, whether it be from sports games, band recitals, her boys stints in the Marines, to starting a carpool for deaf and hearing impaired children to be taken to school or teaching her daughter homemaking skills. Her children were always her everything.
After her divorce, she moved to Fort Worth, Texas. Here she met and married Stacy Delman Meeks on June 17, 1976. She became a proud stepmother to his four children, 2 nieces, and nephew. Her and Stacy owned and operated Stacy’s Auto Sales until his death in September 1985.Her children, Jimmy, Sharlene, Danny, and “adopted daughter” Nancy were her greatest pride and joy.
SHe held many job titles, both at home and as a working single mother. She, in her later years of life, became involved in the Red Hatters Society, as well as many other organizations that brought her joy. She was a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan, loved her some blue grass & Dolly Parton/Kenny Rogers music, enjoyed gardening especially shopping & crafting with her Daughter.
It wasn’t until she became a grandmother, that she found her second greatest joy. She would always proclaim that she was blessed to be a “Mima” to 7 beautiful grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 Great, great grandchild. To all of her grandchildren she was the epiphany of a grandmother.
She is preceded in death by both of her parents, sons: Danny in 1973 & Jimmy in 2002, and as well as her late husband, Stacy in 1985. She is also preceded by both of her brothers: Floyd Lantron, Sr. & James Lantron, 1 granddaughter: Randi Hargroue, and 1 grandson: David Ryan Curry.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Daughter, Sharlene Bandy (John), DIL: Sharon Curry, 7 grandchildren: Tammy McPherson (Clint), Dawne (Kendall), Tina (Kevin), Jeannette Glass (Mike), Jina Wheeler, and Ernie Wheeler, Jr. (Michelle). 16 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson, and numerous nieces & nephews.
We give special thanks to Genitive hospice, Garnett Hill Rehab & skilled nursing facility, Senior Pastor Allen Stroud from The Cross Church, and The Cross-ELA.
