Sharon Kay Gary Darnall's Obituary
Sharon Kay Gary Darnall, age 85 of Houston, Texas passed away on January 20, 2024.
Sharon was born on May 6, 1938, to Kathleen & AG Gary in Cisco, Texas at her grandmother’s house. AG worked for Haliburton, and they moved often, so Sharon was always the new girl in school. After Sharon graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas in 1956, she went on to study Art at North Texas State University where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.
In 1959 while both working at General American Oil & Gas Company in Dallas, she met Larry J. Darnall, a petroleum geologist, University of Texas graduate and member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. They married in April of 1960. Larry was called into military service and Sharon did her best to make DeRidder, Louisiana a happy home. While in Louisiana they developed a love of New Orleans. After moving around her whole life, Sharon was determined to stay in one place for a while. They settled in Garland, TX in 1966 where her children Julie and Steve grew up. Due to Larry’s business, they enjoyed many trips, great dinners and fun times with friends in New Orleans. While living in Garland, she enjoyed her community of what became lifelong friends, and she remained in the same house until 2007. Sharon enjoyed watching her daughter’s children grow up but once they started college, she moved to Houston in 2007 to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law, and their three young daughters.
Although Multiple Sclerosis came into her life at an early age and progressively limited Sharon year after year in different ways, she never complained. She was a devout Christian that never doubted the Lord’s plan for her life.
Sharon loved her family and being involved with her 5 grandchildren. She did not miss an opportunity to discuss God’s saving grace with her children, grandchildren, friends and most any stranger. She was a true shepherd to the Lord. She was very involved with the church and her ladies bible study group.
Sharon loved to read. There was never a time in her life when she did not have multiple books going at once. Sharon was a true artist and loved to sketch all types of people and scenery. Given her MS, reading was a great outlet for her, and even
though the MS impacted her artistic abilities she still loved to create beautiful things. Sharon loved to cook and give homemade treats to her friends and family.
Sharon was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Larry; her sisters, Barbara Hapgood & Susan Johnson, and is survived by her daughter Julie Hart, her husband David Hart, her son Stephen Darnall, his wife Elizabeth Turley Darnall; her grandson, Spencer Hart, his wife Jessica Gardea Hart, granddaughters Madison Hart, Joan Darnall, Vivian Darnall & Susannah Darnall; and great grandson Elliott Hart.
Sharon had all of her mental facilities to the very end. Being a true Christian, she was so excited to experience her graduation to heaven and be reunited with Larry after 34 years of being apart, her parents, sisters and many close friends.
We are so grateful to Sharon’s caregiver, Renea Morgan. Not only did Renea provide the physical support, but she was also a good friend.
A graveside service will be held at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville, Dallas, TX at 11am on Saturday, January 27, 2024. Light bites will be served in the event center after the ceremony.
