Sharon S. Goodyear's Obituary
Sharon S. Goodyear considered herself “a California girl” despite being born in Montana and the numerous years she lived in Texas. She enjoyed a full life and in spite of a difficult start, was determined to make her own way. She studied at Loma Linda University and later opened a high-end home accessories shop, Top of the Table, in Palm Springs where she subsequently met the love of her life, Lee R. Goodyear. His business lead the family to Midland, Texas where she began her career with the FDIC in 1982. After Lee passed away, Sharon and her daughter moved to Dallas. She continued her trajectory within the banking industry and left Texas for an opportunity in New England. She created a lovely home in Plymouth, MA, where she enjoyed countless hours cultivating her passion for gardening. Once semi-retired, gardening, reading and walks on the shore were simply not enough; she missed the corporate environment and the satisfaction of contributing to a team and a job well done. In 2009, after almost 20 years in Plymouth, she returned to Dallas for another round with the FDIC. Sharon was easily recognized and warmly welcomed back by her former colleagues. She had a dry, but quick wit and enjoyed reminiscing and joking about how old they had all become. She took tremendous pride in her career achievements and would want to be remembered as a consummate professional; a strong leader who stopped at nothing to accomplish the corporation’s goals and achieve success. Of course those who knew her well saw the softer, sentimental side. She cared deeply for those around her and wanted only to instill and inspire the same drive and determination she possessed. She knew their “stories,” their families, their likes and dislikes, and though she may not have always displayed it, those relationships were invaluable to her. Sharon maintained a handful of long-term friendships, and in addition to her daughter, they were her family. She is survived by her devoted daughter Alicia and will be missed by a close-knit circle of those who admired and loved her. Burial will take place in Arlington National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
