Sheila Faye Richburg Douthit's Obituary
DOUTHIT, Sheila Faye (Richburg), 77, of Lakeway, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on
December 2, 2021.
Sheila, the only child of James Manning “Jim” Richburg and Lucille Sarah (Thrasher) Richburg,
was born on February 19, 1944 in Monroe, Michigan where her father was stationed in the
United States Navy. Sheila graduated from Mesquite High School in 1962 and attended Texas
Technological College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Government in 1966. She was
active in both church and school events and particularly enjoyed playing flute in her school
bands, her church orchestra, and “the going band from Raiderland.”
In 1966, Sheila married her life’s love and companion of more than 55 years, Ronnel Edward
Douthit. Ron and Sheila became high school teachers and school administrators. Sheila’s career
included teaching social studies at Arlington Heights High School, Ft. Worth, Texas and Highland
Park High School, Dallas, Texas. Sheila continued her education with post-graduate studies,
earning a M.A. in Political Science from U.T. Arlington and a M.S. in Educational Administration
from East Texas State University. Sheila taught as an Adjunct Instructor at Eastfield Community
College in Dallas; was K-12 Curriculum Director for the Highland Park schools; and retired as
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Eanes ISD, Austin, Texas – a fulfilling
career in public education of more than 30 years.
Upon retirement Sheila returned to her love of music and began the new adventure of
songwriting. She also enjoyed researching family genealogy, scrapbooking, and bird-watching.
Most of all, Sheila loved being at home with Ron and spending time with family and friends, and
striving to always remember: “This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Sheila is preceded in death by her husband, Ron, who passed away four months earlier on July
24, 2021, and by her parents, Jim and Lucille Richburg of Dallas, Texas. She is survived by two
sisters-in-law, a nephew, two nieces, several cousins, and dear friends and neighbors who have
become like family over the years.
