Shelby Ernest Marchant Jr.'s Obituary
Shelby Ernest Marchant Jr. (S.E.) was born October 16, 1922 in Dodd City Texas, the son of Shelby Ernest and Hulda Ann Marchant. He passed away January 8, 2016 at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City. S.E. entered the army in August 1944 where he was a tank operator and was honorably discharged January 1946 after 3 plus years of service to his country. He married the love of his life Dosia Epley in 1949 and they began their journey in life together. They moved from Bonham, Texas to Dallas, Texas the same year and started a family. His children Carolyn and Donnie were the greatest joy in his life. S.E worked in a factory building furniture until the entrepreneur spirit took over and started his move toward self-employment and he never looked back after that. His greatest desire, apart from his family, was to invest in old houses. It could be said that he never met a house too ugly or too decrepit he couldn’t fix. The original “We Buy Ugly Houses” man! This, of course, came only second to the love he had for his family, which included blood relatives as well as many others who became family. He was a faithful follower of Christ and supported his church and also raised a few pastors along the way. (You know who you are) Equally, he loved his wife Dosia and made whatever sacrifices needed to make sure she did not do without. He spoiled his kids, but at the same time taught them the values of life and to respect others. He left this world surrounded by family, just the way he lived his life. Preceded in death by His parents, Shelby Earnest Marchant, Sr. and Hulda Ann Marchant; sisters, Obera Butler and Imogene Kennedy; brothers Hobart Marchant and Thurman Marchant. Survived by his wife of 66 years Dosia Marchant; daughter Carolyn Schluter and husband Carl; son Donnie Marchant and wife Debi; sister Betty Struble; grandchildren Shelby Schluter and wife Robin, Shauna Gerlach and husband David, Amber Medved and husband Joshua, Joshua Marchant and wife Jamie, and Seth Marchant and fiancé Mary Hunter; nine great-grandchildren; scores of nieces, nephews and cousins along with many other family members. Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held Friday, January 15, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Carrollton Church of the Nazarene. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
