Shiaw Yuan Su's Obituary
Shiaw Su, a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, unexpectedly passed away on January 31, 2025, in Plano, Texas, at the age of 84. Born on August 1, 1940, in the Shanhua District of Tainan, Taiwan, Shiaw was a man of great determination and dedication.
From a young age, Shiaw was driven by a desire to succeed and make a better life for himself. He graduated from National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan in 1964 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. He was the first person from Shanhua, to study abroad, earning his Masters Degree in Petroleum Engineering at Oklahoma State University and Doctorate of Industrial Engineering in 1971 from the University of Michigan. After graduation, he moved to Dallas to work at Sun Oil, then Oryx Energy, where he worked until he retired at 52 to start two successful businesses, an import/export company, Susco Imports and a real estate brokerage/property management/investment company, Susco Investments. Dallas is the city he chose to establish his family and community roots. This included becoming the 4th President of the Taiwanese Association of America, a community that he loved and considered family by choice. His academic achievements were a testament to his studious nature and unwavering commitment to his goals. Shiaw's journey from a small farm in Taiwan to becoming a respected scholar and a successful businessman was an inspiration to many. Shiaw was a devoted father who worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He always prioritized his children and wife’s future by religiously working and saving throughout his entire life to ensure they had the opportunities he never had. His dedication and love for his family, both here and in Taiwan, was matched only by his passion and skill for golf & stock trading and his love for Spring Creek Barbecue & Elvis Presley.
Shiaw's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support. He will be remembered for his remarkable achievements, strong opinions and his love for his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hsin-Chun Su & Kin-New Chen his brothers, Shiaw-Yuang Su & Shiaw-Shen Su. He is survived by his siblings, brother, Dr. Shiaw-Der Su and sisters, Ming-Chu Hu & Ming-She Wang, his beloved wife and best friend, Morlin, his children and their spouses, Derek & Mina Su and Phebe & Charles Hoene and his beautiful and amazing grandchildren, Jordan & AJ Su and
LiLu Hoene.
There will be a memorial service celebrating his life legacy on February 15th, 2025, at 2pm in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX.
