I met Shirley when she used to walk with Emily Surles and Marianna Johnson in our neighborhood. I'm a walker, too, and it's not only a healthy activity but a good way to meet people. Shirley was always friendly and funny and a pleasure to talk with. When our Crime Watch needed a block captain to deliver newsletters on Glen Echo, I asked her about it and said yes. She always let me know if someone knew moved in or if someone moved away. Even after she quit walking regularly, she often stopped in her car to talk a minute if she drove by when I was out. I'll miss her lovely smile and delightful personality and extend my deepest sympathy to her family. Sharon Smith
