Shirley LaVerne Cook's Obituary
Shirley LaVerne Cook passed away in hospice care February 12, 2020 at the age of 84. She was born on December 20, 1935 in Caddo Mills, Texas to Thomas C. Grimes and Bessie Lee Coplin. LaVerne worked many years as a hairdresser. She then worked at Cook Chiropractice Center for her son Philip until recently. She will be remembered as a loving daughter, wife, mother, and friend. Her pecan pies were very popular during the holidays. Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband of 62 years, Claude Travis Cook; brothers, William R. Grimes and Merl Grimes; and her sister, Annie Mildred Grimes Canada. She is survived by daughter Janice Cook Chapman (Dennis), sons Gerald Cook (Beth) and Dr. Philip Cook (Regina) all of Rowlett; granddaughter Dr. Allyson Cook (fiance Jordan Chapman) of San Francisco, CA., grandson John Waldron (Landrie), great-granddaughters Murphie and Lucie, of Ft. Worth, TX; granddaughter Jordan S. Chapman (fiance' Jonathan Campbell) of Seattle, WA.; and granddaughter Jenna Chapman of Rowlett, TX., and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020, from 4-6 pm at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday, February 16, 2:30 pm., at Restland Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park, Garden of Ascension. A reception will follow at the Restland Funeral Home Event Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Texas Oncology Foundation, Inc., 12221 Merit Drive, Suite 500, Dallas, TX 75251, 972-490-2930, or the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank all of LaVerne's caregivers from Senior Helpers and Faith Presbyterian Hospice who made it possible for her to have a quality of life at home.
