Shirley Lea Fisher's Obituary
Shirley Lea Akers Fisher joined the saints triumphant on November 7, 2011. She lived her life with flair and bugles blowing. A free spirit who marched to a different drummer, she was outgoing and loved people. Having lived and traveled throughout the world, the journey and history of each country were her interest. She enjoyed biking, horseback riding when young, hiking in Colorado, and trekking out of Nepal around Mt. Everest. She walked the Great Wall of China, visited the Taj Mahal and Tower in India, and the Sphinx in Egypt. All places were on her agenda. Her heritage as a French Huguenot stemmed from her 12th great grandmother and grandfather, Pierre and Francoise Billiou, who came to America in 1661, their home being built in 1662, still standing today in Staten Island, NY, as a historical monument. Shirley was born August 21, 1933, in Longview, TX, graduating from Longview High School and attending Centenary College, Shreveport, LA. Shirley is preceded by her parents, Myrtle B. Akers and William Webster Akers; brother, Dane W. Akers, all of Longview, TX., her son, Chris Fisher of Dallas, TX. Survived by daughters, Cherami Fisher of Carrollton, TX, Karen Fisher Tolkkinen of Tyler, TX, Cindy Fisher McCormick and husband Larry McCormick of Dallas, TX; her precious granddaughters, Abbey McCormick and Emma McCormick of Dallas, TX; her sisters LaLita Akers Taylor and Patsy Akers McDonald and husband John of Dallas, TX., as well as nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Shelia Tidwell, Shirley’s dedicated care taker and friend. “They whom we love and lose are no longer where they were before. They are now wherever we are.” St. John Chrysotom (349-407), Bishop of Constantinople. Services pending with Restland Funeral Home.
