She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Chet, and her son-in-law, Lester Derby.Shirley was born to Francis and Grace Hutchinson in Canton, Texas, on March 19, 1927. A proud Texan, she grew up in Oak Cliff, and was a 1944 graduate of Sunset High School. The best times of her life were spent at the University of Texas Austin, where she met and fell in love with Chet. They were married in 1949. She graduated in1950, with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts. For 20 years, Shirley touched the lives of so many children with the daycare center she operated out of her Richardson home. She had such an enthusiastic outlook on life and chose to see the greatness in everyone & everything. There wasn’t a person alive that didn’t enjoy being around Shirley. Her wit and sense of humor stayed with her until her final hours. Many a day and night were spent in her swing on her beloved patio (designed and built by Chet) surrounded with plants and flowers. She always had a fabulous tan from her days of sunning and reading on the patio. If she wasn’t outside, she was in her favorite rocking chair, legs crossed, turning pages of a book with her long, red, fingernails. And, let us not forget the Friday night impromptu gatherings in the driveway on Meadow View Drive, where EVERYONE was welcome!Mom was a straight-shooter,. She was always there for her family. She was the rock, heart and soul of our family. We love her and will miss her greatly. Rest easy until we meet again, Mom.Funeral services will be held at the Restland Memorial Chapel, Monday, December 4, 2017, at 11:00AM, with a graveside service and reception immediately following.Pallbearers: Travis Mouser, Andrew Mouser, Nicholas Gaume, Jackson Gaume, Marcus Thompson & Phillip Derby.
