Shirley Elizabeth McCutchin's Obituary
Shirley Elizabeth McCutchin, lovingly known to her family and friends as Honey, was welcomed into her forever home in Heaven with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on October 2, 1932, in Dallas, Texas, she was the cherished daughter of Edward R. Burden and Lottie Persons Burden.
Shirley shared a loving and devoted 73-year marriage with the love of her life, Richard McCutchin. Together they built a life rooted in love and family. She was a beloved mother to her daughter, Karen Palmer, and the proud “Honey” to her granddaughter, Mia Turner, and grandson, Ian Mitchell. Her joy multiplied in her role as great-grandmother to Tripp, Richard, Merrick, and Finn.
Shirley was known for her loving, gentle, and sweet spirit, and she greeted everyone she met with a warm, genuine smile. She had a quiet grace that made others feel instantly at ease and left a lasting imprint on all who knew her.
Her faith was a guiding light. Shirley was a member of Park Cities Baptist Church, living and sharing her beliefs with sincerity and kindness.
Shirley and Richard moved from Dallas to Levelland in 1957, where they spent 43 years before returning to Dallas in 2000. During her years in Levelland, Shirley found deep purpose in her career as a high school counselor, where she helped countless students chart their futures with encouragement and care.
Shirley’s absence leaves a space that can never be filled, but her love will surround us forever.
A service honoring Shirley’s life will be held graveside at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas, on Thursday, June 5th at 2:00 p.m. All who loved her are welcome to attend and celebrate her beautiful life.
