Shirley J. Ryan of Garland, TX
December 16, 1917 - December 12, 2019
Survivors include: Son, John E. Julian of Las Vegas, NV; Daughter, Mignon Edwards of Farmersville, TX
; Granddaughters, Melinda Edwards of Farmersville, TX and Donna Marie Brunko of Harlowton, MT; Grandson, John C. Julian of Powel, WY and numerous Great Grandchildren.
Shirley was a devout Christian, sang in the choir and lived her life as a testament to her faith. Being only four days short of her 102nd birthday, she credited her long life to the Good Lord above and walking daily.
She was born in El Paso, TX to Nathanial and Rosa Coleman. After losing her Mother at age 8, she and her Father relocated to the Dallas area.
As a child, she spent her summers on a farm with her beloved Grandparents in Athens, TX. She attributed her passion for singing to her Grandmother who taught her many hymns.
She was preceded in death by 2 husbands.
In 1935 at 17 yrs of age, she married John Julian Jr. of Addison, TX. and they had two children. Then in 1962, she married Frank Ryan of Garland, TX.
Her career led her to work for the City of Dallas. With her high work ethic, she became the first female Tax Appraiser for Dallas in 1973.
Along with her love for singing, Shirley was a voracious reader and loved poems. She also made sure she had a joke prepared for her Sunday School Class every Sunday.
Shirley was beloved by many. Her caring friends and church family had a special place of endearment in her loving heart.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 20, 2019 at 2:00pm at First United Methodist Church of Rowlett, 4405 Main St., Rowlett, TX 75088
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: First United Methodist Church Music Ministries or
Volunteer Services Council for Denton State Supported Living Center
