Shirley Spruill's Obituary
Shirley June Spruill was born January 8th, 1936, in Tillman County, Ok to Thomas Franklin Clark and Myrtle Huff Clark. She and her family lived there until she was six years old and then they moved to Wylie, Tx. That became, and still is to this day, home base for the whole family even though many are scattered about.
She met Duane Spruill after her senior year in high school and they married on December 23, 1953. Their first son, Howard, was born in 1956 and Bryan followed in 1958. They lived in Mesquite, Tx until 1963 and then on to Garland, Tx where they lived for all the years the boys were growing up and making their own families.
Duane and Shirley were faithfully involved in the churches that they attended. Shirley was the nursery coordinator and later, the church librarian. Duane had a huge heart for missions and working with young people and Shirley accompanied him, along with the boys, on many youth mission trips to Mexico. That became the family's summer vacation every year.
Duane passed in 1989, but Mom carried on taking great delight in her grandchildren, taking them shopping, reading books and teaching them how to bake.
In her later years, Shirley went to live with Bryan for 3 years and then on to live with Howard and Lilly for 8 years till she passed on September 23, 2024.
She outlived all of her 9 siblings that included 4 brothers, Tim, Tommy, Garry, and Danny Clark and her 5 sisters, LaVerne Hutchteman, Dorothy Clark, Melba Horne, Janet Williams and Pat Housewright.
She is survived by Howard and Lilly Spruill of Allen, Tx and Bryan Spruill of Denison, Tx.
Grandchildren include Mandy and her husband, Lance Greathouse of College Station, Tx, Jason Spruill and his wife Kynda of Charlotte, Tx, Sarah Priest of Stillwater, Ok, and Hayden Kirkby and his wife Katy of Denton, Tx.
Great grandchildren include Hannah and Trenton Greathouse, Hazel and Ellie Priest, and Tiffany, Alex and Ashley Hewitt. Finally, the great, greats Brylon and Marleigh Legg and Arthur Hart.
There are more nieces and nephews and cousins than we have time to name but they were all equally cherished by Shirley. Besides Jesus, family was the whole of her heart.
