Sidney Wayne Cockrill's Obituary
Sidney Wayne Cockrill, 89, passed away Monday, November 28, 2016, in Denton, Texas. Sid was born January 16, 1927 to Cornelius Gatewood Cockrill and Virginia Bell Cockrill. Sid married Janis Wynell Cherry Cockrill on October 31, 1947. Sid was in the Army Infantry Division after he graduated from High School. It was World War II. He went to Italy. When he got discharged from the Army he came back home to Pilot Point. He then went to work for Southwestern Bell as a lineman and worked his way up to Engineer. He retired from Bell Telephone after 35 years of faithful service. He made many friends along the way. Sid is preceded in death by his parents, son Wayne Oneal Cockrill, grandsons Jason Compton and Marty Hawley, siblings Charlie Cockrill, Fay Sullivan, Maudene Hammons, Mylus Cockrill, Thelma Maughan, Nellie Ruth Hammons, Nealous Cockrill and Idell Odom. Survived by his loving wife of 69 years Wynell Cockrill, children and spouses, Virginia and Keith Hawley, Catherine and Perry Compton, grandchildren, Clayton Hawley, Jeremy Compton, Janis Alba, six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews by the dozens, one sister Nina Hammons of Pilot Point. Funeral Services will be held Thursday December 1, 2016 at Hope Community Church of the Nazarene, 3600 Kings Row, Denton, Texas, at 1:00 P.M.. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral service, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., at Hope Community Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be following the services at Roselawn Cemetery in Denton, Texas.
