Sidney Lon Gross' Obituary
Sidney Lon Gross, 86, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 16th in Plano, Texas. He was born on December 10, 1930 in Greenwood, Arkansas to Edward Monroe Gross and Grace Elmore where he was raised on the family farm. He married the love of his life, Mary Hughleen McKenzie, on December 26, 1954. After initially making their home in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the couple settled in Richardson, Texas and became devoted members of Waterview Church of Christ. Sid graduated from Mansfield High School (Mansfield, Arkansas) in 1948, and shortly thereafter enlisted in the United States Air Force. While serving his four year commitment, he met Hughleen during one of her visits to see her sister who was also in the Air Force. After completion of his service, he worked various sales positions in general merchandising in the Fort Smith area. In 1969, Sid permanently relocated his family to Richardson, Texas where they have remained since. He was a devoted husband, father, and “Papa”, who loved his family, friends, and most importantly his Christ Savior. Sid is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Grace Gross as well as his siblings, Lora Pigg, Harold Gross, Eunice Norris, and Geraldine Nipp. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 62 years, Hughleen Gross, his daughters Cheryl Kacvinsky and her husband Tim of Trophy Club, TX; Lisa Zadow and her husband Doug of Melissa, TX; granddaughters, Sydney Williams and her husband Joe Ryan of Melissa, TX and their children, Judson, Bishop, and Rowan; Shelby Guthrie and her husband Aaron of Argyle, TX and their children, Reid and Rhett; Skyler Zadow of McKinney, TX; grandson Peyton Kacvinsky of Trophy Club, TX; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be held from 9:00-9:45 AM, prior to the funeral service on Wednesday, December 21st at Waterview Church of Christ, 1409 N. Waterview Drive in Richardson. Services will be held at 10:00 AM following the visitation at Waterview Church of Christ. A private family graveside burial will take place later in the day in Melissa, TX. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Robert and Willora Oglesby Foundation.
