Signe Mickelson, 92, died Aug. 8, 2020 in Dallas, TX. She was born Sept 9, 1927 in Monte Vista, CO to Solveig and John Harden. She grew up on farms in the Red River Valley in Minnesota and North Dakota and graduated from high school in Fargo, ND in 1944. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and the Dakota Business College in Fargo. She worked at
the Fargo National Bank for three years, becoming personal secretary to the President and Chairman of the Board. In 1951 she moved to Washington, D.C. as a secretary in the office of Senator William (Wild Bill) Langer of North Dakota and enjoyed being involved in the Senator’s 1952 re-election campaign.
A co-worker set her up on a blind date with Kermont Mickelson, also from North Dakota, and they were married in 1952. When Kermont took a job in the oil industry they moved around west Texas for two years, followed by Ft. Worth, Littleton and Durango, CO, San Antonio, Houston, and then Dallas in 1975 where they remained. She was active in her church, involved
in community service and was a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren and traveled to their various events. Signe had a sense of adventure and loved to travel. She and her husband traveled to every state and many foreign countries. They especially enjoyed their vacation home in Arkansas, and Elderhostel trips (now Road Scholar) attending lectures, learning about the history and culture of the areas they traveled to and meeting new people. She was an avid game player enjoying board and word games and was a lifelong baseball fan.
She is survived by her four children, Sonja (Mark) Mathisen, Kent Mickelson, Karen (Lee) Meador, Sandra (Edlyn) Vatthauer, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was beloved by all and
