She was the 5th born of 12 children, six brothers: Juan Marin, Joe Marin, Henry Marin, Manuel Marin Jr., Lorenzo Marin, Tony Marin and four sisters: Martha Perez, Gloria Gatica, Olga Martinez, and Veronica Rodriguez. Simona embodied the rich Christian tradition instilled in her by her parents and extended family. She raised her family to appreciate those same morals, values and the Word of God. In 1964, she married Benito Vargas and moved from Lubbock, TX to Dallas, TX. As a young woman she worked hard to provide for her family of nine loving children: Juanita “Janie” Vargas, Benito Vargas Jr., Delma Huland, Danny Vargas, Amy Chapman, Susie Edlund, Margo Vargas, Christy Vargas, and Adam Vargas. Simona was truly a strong and independent woman. She fought hard to care and provide for those she loved. She appreciated the blessings that come with a big family and modeled her parenting on the practices that were handed down to her and her 11 siblings. Simona’s dad, Apa….. still lives in Lubbock and continues to be the anchor for the family. Over the years, her children and family grew as grandchildren were born. She was a loving mother and an even more loving grandmother affectionately referred to as “Nanny”. Grandmother to Julian McClendon, Clarissa McClendon, Jessica Vargas, Benito Vargas III, Hunter Finley, Madison Huland, Sedalia Huland, Danny Vargas Jr, Taylor Vargas, Angel “Angelo” Vargas, Marrissa Chapman, Roderick Chapman, Cooper Edlund, Carson Edlund, Cameron Edlund, Angelica “Jelly” Vargas, Alexander Vargas, Michael Vargas, Jonathan Vargas, Sariah “Smidgy” Vargas, Samara Vargas, Reyna Vargas, Triton “Fat Boy” Vargas. She was and will forever be the matriarch of our family. John 14:1-4″Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” (Jesus’ words) Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, September 27, 2013 at Restland Funeral Home.
