Sondra Jean Johnson's Obituary
JOHNSON, SONDRA JEAN VINSON born January 22, 1942 in Alice, TX and passed away August 31, 2012 in Dallas, TX. She is survived by her son, Derek Johnson and his wife Debra as well as two grandchildren, Ashley and Johnny. Sondra grew up in San Antonio and was raised by her adoring mother, Lora Lee. The two of them were inseparable and they had an incredible relationship that included a real life tale of playing dress up. Lora Lee sewed every one of Sondra’s dresses during her childhood and the two would make frequent trips to take amazing pictures at the local studio. Sondra had her first and only child, Derek, in 1971. This was truly her real calling in life. She made all the sacrifices to make sure her son was always in style and she never missed a practice, game or school function. She was an excellent listener and was always a person her son could talk to about anything and I mean anything. She was the best mother a son could ever ask for. Sondra worked for Texas Health Resources for over 20 years and made many friends during those years. She loved her job and her co-workers and they loved her back. Sondra was considered the “Cool Mom” and it was no wonder that Derek’s house became the hangout for all of his friends. She was a second mom to every one of them. She spent her later years spoiling her grandchildren and she was the main reason Christmas and Thanksgiving was always so special in the Johnson household. She was more than just a mom, grandmother and co-worker. She was a friend to the end and now she’s in Heaven. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Restland Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 12:30 PM, Thursday, September 6 at Restland Memorial Park.
