I have known Sonia for over 30 years. She is the most incredible woman I have had the pleasure of calling my friend. She was so very special. And so many memories . . . a couple that immediately come to mind:
When my daughter, Dani, was in the sixth grade, she chose Cuba for her research paper. Sonia offered to help her, so after doing her initial research, she called Sonia. It was eye-opening for Dani as so many of the “facts” weren’t even close to the truth and the actual reality for the Cuban people. Sonia was incredibly special to Dani, and this experience brought more admiration for the woman she loved and what Sonia had experienced in her life.
Another memory brought light to some difficult days we all experienced in 2020. Sonia and I had a dear friend, Sedrick, and the three of us had monthly zoom calls during most of our Covid days. Sedrick would select a topic, and we all had homework to do. I so looked forward to our time together, time when we solved all the world’s problems (or so we thought!).
You are dearly missed, Sonia. Forever in my heart!♥
Love,
Lindy Austin
