Sonia Regina Deluna's Obituary
Sonia Regina DeLuna, was born April 3, 1939, outside Woodsboro, Texas and, ascended to Heaven January 30, 2022, to rest in her eternal home, joining her parents, Ben and Pauline, and siblings, Leon and Nina.
Sonia was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be dearly missed.
Sonia shared her life and love with God. She found great comfort in praying the Rosary daily. This was the cornerstone of her foundation and faith, and she found peace and community through mass. With so much love and empathy to share, Sonia found great fulfillment working as a caregiver and considered it a privilege to provide comfort to others.
Sonia suffered a setback in 2002 when she had a stroke that prevented her from caregiving and had to focus on her own rehabilitation. Known for her strength, determination and independence, she was adamant about living on her own. While her body struggled with the stroke and necessary medications, she approached her challenges with grace, perseverance and humor…a role model to her children.
She also enjoyed family gatherings and being with her children and their families. Social and gregarious, with a delightful sense of humor, she loved playing games, coloring, doing puzzles and interacting with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and it was a final blessing that she was able to spend the holidays with all five of her children.
She is survived by daughters, Debbie and her husband, Michael; Connie and her husband, Ken; Pamela and her husband, Greg; Lydia and her husband, Mario; and son, Gilbert. She is also survived by grandchildren, Michael David, Trevor and Alexis; great-grandchildren; and siblings Alonzo, Robert, Richard, Dora and Virginia.
Sonia will be remembered for her devotion to her faith and love of family and friends. The family will hold a private memorial mass celebrating her life at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her memory to MD Anderson Cancer Research at mdanderson.org.
