SPC James Thomas Smith IV's Obituary
SPC James Thomas Smith IV was born in Norfolk, VA. He graduated from Naaman Forest High School in 2012. He enlisted in the United States Army in January of 2015 as an 89D Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician. SPC Smith attended Basic Training at Fort Benning, GA, Phase One of Explosive Ordnance Disposal School at Fort Lee, VA, and the Naval School of Explosive Ordnance Disposal at Eglin Air Force Base. Following successful completion of EOD school, SPC Smith was assigned to the 752D OD CO (EOD) at Fort Hood, TX While at Fort Hood SPC Smith completed the Air load Planner’s II Course, VMR2 handheld detector training, and over 76 EOD tasks IJ to become certified as an EOD Team Member. His awards include the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Ribbon, Certificate of Achievement, Army Commendation Medal, and the EOD Badge. He is survived by his dad James and Shana Smith and Romeo and Jennifer Michelle Lopez; brothers Justin and Jason Bennett; sister, Shelby Smith; stepsister, Jennifer Diane Lopez; grandparents, Clara Crawford and Debra and Robert Gardner and Diana and Wayne Woodley Pasadena, Texas. His memory lives on with his close friends, family, and his military brothers in arms. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Service to celebrate James’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at 2:30 PM in The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. A reception is to follow the service in Restland Event Center. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
