I first met Steve at a Dr Pepper Snapple Group financial planning course that he and Mark put on at the company headquarters during the lunch hour. Steve had such an engaging personality and I will always remember the unique laugh that he and Mark so amazingly share. I quickly became an Eagle/NY Life client and worked very closely with Steve, who helped us plan for and reach our retirement goal just a year ago. I'll never forget the first time my wife and I met with Steve together and he told us that you don't have a retirement goal until you set a date to retire. That resonated with me and was the start of our plan that led to the wonderful retirement life we are now so blessed to be able to enjoy. Steve and I shared a love for Nissan Z's, since we both owned them. He bought me a Z baseball cap and had me take a picture sitting in my Z, parked in our retirement home driveway, wearing my Z cap. He was so thrilled to get the picture. Steve was more than our financial planner and became our friend. We talked about a lot of things other than our plan and I truly enjoyed his friendship. He always made himself available to us wherever and whenever was most convenient for our schedules and always came well prepared to discuss whatever we needed to talk with him about. We were only a year apart in age and I know he was so much looking forward to his retirement, but as we well know, God's thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways. He obviously had a different plan for Steve and I know God is now rejoicing that His son, Steve, is home with Him for all eternity. I will always treasure my fond memories of Steve and his friendship. God Bless the Stratton Family! Tom Upchurch
I miss Steve greatly! He was such a blessing to those of us who benefited from his Tuesday night Bible teaching. Not just explaining the scriptures but applying it in our lives. I have been blessed with many knowledgeable Bible teachers, but none that I could spend extended time with to answer my questions, or that I could ask for more explanation on a difficult topic. He would take as much time as necessary. He and Lanette shared their home and generous hospitality with us every week. Though he struggled with unimaginable pain for more than the past year, he didn't head for bed when he got home from work on Tuesdays. He was excited to begin our Bible study as though he were fine. How many people would do that? Could do that? I just enjoyed spending time with him, at home, or even during the numerous hospital stays where we had more time to talk. It was like a little bit of Jesus was visible in him. We wanted him here, but God wanted Steve with Him now. Yes, I will miss him greatly — until it is my turn to see him again.

Maggie and I joined Steve's Bible Study group late last year, and quickly were impressed with his Biblical mastery and teaching gifts…but even more so with the warmth, grace and sincere caring from both Steve and Lanette which enfolded us from first entering their home…and from all in our class. It is joyous to know that now he no longer "sees through a glass, darkly", but now "face to face" (with our Lord)…once knowing God in part, but know knowing Him even as he is known.
