Steven Strange's Obituary
On Friday, January 18th, 2019, Steven Strange, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away suddenly at the age of 79 in Dallas, TX. Steve was born August 3, 1939 in Dallas, TX, the only son of Lavaughn and Donna Strange. A life-long resident of Dallas, Steve attended University Park Elementary School, Highland Park High School, and earned an undergraduate and law degree from Southern Methodist University. He enjoyed an illustrious basketball career playing for the SMU Mustangs, and upon graduation was drafted by the Chicago Zephyrs as the 83rd pick in the 1961 NBA draft, a job offer he declined to pursue a career in law. He was very proud of his accomplishments on the basketball court and took great joy in the life-long friendships that he formed. Steve practiced law for 54 years and felt very fortunate to find a career that he loved. He developed a reputation for expertise, fairness, and compassion. Many of his clients became his friends. In 1975 Steve married the love of his life, Judy Carol Frazier, beginning a devoted marriage that would form into a loving family. He was very involved in his sons’ lives and always had time for them. Steve was a devout member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, becoming a member as a young man, and later serving as an usher and on the board of trustees. Steve was a voracious reader, a dog lover, and an avid outdoorsman. Steve’s life passions were his family and friends. He adored his friends, many of whom he had met as a young man. He was a thoughtful and caring husband, father, and grandfather. Steve touched many people’s lives and will be missed immensely.Steve is survived by his wife, Judy Strange, and two sons, Matthew Strange of Los Angeles, CA; and Joshua Strange and wife, Sahar, of Dallas, and his adoring granddaughter, Arden.The family will be receiving friends for a viewing on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 6:00-8:00PM at Restland Funeral Home.A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 1:00PM at Highland Park United Methodist Church in the Sanctuary.In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to Operation Kindness, the Dallas SPCA, or your favorite animal rescue organization.
