Thank you Restland Funeral Home TAYLOR, STEVEN JAY of Richardson, Texas was born on June 12, 1953 in Wichita, Kansas and passed away at home on May 18th, 2014 at the age of 60. Steve’s passion for music came from his Mother’s family background with her parent’s Vaudeville tent show. He had his first band in grade school called The Mad Lads and in high school he formed his second band Sump’n Else. He was a connoisseur of music, enjoying listening to and playing live music. His father excelled in athletics playing football in college and played in four Bowl games in one year. He lettered in Baseball and even played against the Harlem Globetrotters. Steve was graced with his father’s sports abilities and played a big part of his life. From little league, coached by his father, to excelling in Varsity football at Nathan Hale High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he graduated in 1971. He was offered, but did not accept a football scholarship at University of Oklahoma, however it was still the University of his choice for several years. He later graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1990 with a double degree in Economics and Finance. His early career was in restaurant management at Richthofen’s at Love Field, Chili’s and Pizza Hut. Steve made a career change into the Real Estate industry in 1991 and was a Mortgage Financier for several years before joining Pulte Homes where he had a successful career in new home sales. His life dramatically changed in 2000 when he became disabled after back surgery. Steve stayed as active as possible in his son’s Austin and Zach’s lives. One of the most cherished times in his life was coaching his sons and being involved in their baseball and basketball teams from elementary to teenage years. He also nurtured and developed their love of music teaching Austin how to play guitar and Zachary drums. Steve was blessed with the love of his life, Judy, who is an angel on earth and dutiful wife that so tenderly took care of his every need. They were best friends and had the same interest in sports, movies and books and were intellectually matched. As Steve became less mobile they spent many hours and days together at home enjoying and being grateful for each other. They celebrated their 26th Wedding Anniversary this year on Valentine’s Day. In addition to his loving wife, Steve is also survived by his sons he was so very proud of, James Austin Taylor (20) and Zachary Brooks Taylor (16); sister, Kathryn Vaye Taylor Freeman and her husband, Michael Dane Freeman; nephews, Charles Taylor Elwonger and Chock Farley Freeman; aunt, Betty Jo Holland; cousins, Jeanine Kenyon Douglass, Kathryn Kenyon Jentz and husband, Gib Jentz, Janelle Kenyon, Joy Holland Coleman, Bill Coleman Jr., Candy Coleman Skwarek, Dave Holland, Rick Holland, Dinah Holland Begley, Carol Douglass Norwood, Kay Ann Douglass, Janna Douglass Russell, Hal Craig Douglass II, Larry Jentz, Kenyon Jentz, Karen Jentz Masters, Chase Jentz, Charles Kenneth Kenyon II, Robert Holland Kenyon, Christie Kenyon Zartler, Robert David Kenyon Jr., Matthew Kenyon and many other extended family.
