Sue Jones' Obituary
Edwina Sue Jones passed into our Lord’s hands on Saturday, August 5, 2017, in Dallas, Texas. She was born on October 23, 1933, in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky to Wallace and Cora Boggess. After graduating from Anderson High School, she attended business school and went to work for a company in Louisville, Kentucky. While there, she met her future husband, Tilford Jones, on a blind date. Shortly after getting married, they started their family and moved to New Albany, Indiana. Their relationship with God was always strong and came first in their lives. No matter where they lived they joined a church family and served faithfully. Their family soon grew to four children and they loaded up their belongings and moved to Houston, Texas. It was hard being away from her family, but as with all things she adjusted to life in Texas and helped raise their four rambunctious children. After 4 years in Houston, they decided to leave the Gulf Coast and move to Dallas. There they joined the First Christian Church in Richardson. She volunteered with the Bazaar Ladies and helped stitch the quilts that were raffled off each year. Life moved on and the kids grew up and moved out of the house. Once their youngest moved out they started their world travels. Mom enjoyed traveling, seeing sights she had only read or heard about. They traveled to China, Australia, Egypt, the Holy Land, Ireland, and many other far flung places. They joined the congregation at Northway Christian Church as their final church home. There she joined the Crafters and continued creating things for the Bazaar. In between their travels, their family grew to include four spouses and 10 grandchildren and a great grandson. Mom doted on her grandchildren and created a Christmas stocking for each new addition to the extended family. Then during all of this joy, breast cancer invaded her life. As with other tough times, she fought cancer in her quiet way. Soon her cancer was in remission and she and Dad embraced their new lease on life. After several years of remission, cancer returned in new areas and once again she fought back. The treatments kept things in check, but after more than 7 years she finally succumbed to the disease. During her fight, she continued leading a full life until the very end. Her quiet strength and strong knowledge that Jesus is her Savior kept Mom strong. It was this strength and knowledge that she imparted to each of us and that we keep with us to this day. Sue is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years Tilford Jones, sister Louise Gatewood, and daughter Mary Fisher She is survived by her children, Mark Jones and his wife Linda of Austin, Texas, Wallace Jones and his wife Linda of Fairview, Texas and Martha Beard and her husband Marc of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren Heather Jones, Chris Jones, Marissa Ghramm, Michael Jones, Kathryn Jones, Patrick Jones, Collin Jones, Amanda Beard, Zachary Beard and Matthew Beard; great-grandson, Strummer Jones; sister Betty Hazlewood; brother Wallace Boggess; sister-in-law Mary Maxine Palmer; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
