Susan Dring Gee's Obituary
Susan Dring Gee passed away on September 12, 2023, trusting in God and believing in the goodness of mankind. Her love of family was rivaled only by her love of animals large and small, especially Golden Retrievers. She nourished the souls of her children and neighbors with her ever caring heart, commitment to community and her desire to help others less fortunate. Her excitement planning a party, especially one for the Fourth of July, would make even a reluctant bystander feel excited and patriotic.
Susan was born on January 29, 1941, in South Bend, Indiana. She attended Highland Park High School followed by the University of Texas at Austin. She later received her MLA from SMU. She faithfully attended Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Susan preferred studying at a quiet library off campus so she wouldn’t be disturbed, God had a different plan. George and Susan laid eyes on each other in that library and never lost their focus on each other. They married in November of 1961 and had three children Jennifer (married to Jim Carter), Karen (married to Robert Schlachter), and Douglas. Susan is also survived by her sister, Mary and five grandchildren Michelle, Claire (married to Patrick Yoon), Larsen, David and Roby and great grandchild Lyla.
Susan led the charge for the women’s movement with a career in banking that stretched three decades, starting as a teller, and quickly rising through the corporate ladder to Assistant Vice President. Her continual employment through bank acquisitions began at First Federal S&L, Texas Federal, Bright Banc, Bank One and concluded at Chase. She faced obstacles with a sharp critical mind, determination, and her greatest gift, kindness.
Susan believed in grass-roots organizations starting with the Silver Stars, Bright Futures, and Meals on Wheels. In lieu of flowers, please donate to an organization supporting childhood education or animal rescue.
